Credit File
A consumer credit file documents an individual's credit profile and history. Creditors and lenders view a person's credit file and score in order to evaluate the person's financial state of health and his credit worthiness. Interest rates for loans are often determined using consumer credit files and scores.Credit files are maintained by credit bureaus. There are three major ones in the United States. They are Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Equifax is the largest of the three credit bureaus. Consumers can request their credit files and credit scores from each of the three bureaus. Typically a fee is charged. However, a quick search on the Internet will display many free promotional offers for credit files.
